How to disable the power button
The
following procedure disables the power button and lid close while
laptop is connected to the AC power.
- [Win]+R (or select Start / Run)
- Enter 'powercfg.cpl' without quotation marks.
- Click 'Choose what the power buttons do'
- Select do nothing for 'When I press the power button'
under 'Plugged in' column.
- Do the same for 'When I close the lid'.
- Optional: you may do the same for 'when I press sleep
button'
After the above procedure, an unauthorized person is prevented from shutting down your
computer when it is locked. However you can still shutdown your
computer with a windows command (i.e. Start > Turn off) after unlocking the computer. The above
instruction applies to Windows Vista. For Windows XP, please refer to the Windows XP user guide for detail.
How to prevent
computer from automatically falling a sleep
The following instruction prevents computer from automatically falling
a sleep (hibernate or standby) while it is running on AC power.
- [Win]+R (or select Start / Run)
- Enter 'powercfg.cpl' without quotation marks.
- Click 'Choose what the power buttons do'
- Change when the computer sleeps
- Select 'Never' for 'Put the computer to sleep' under
'Plugged in' column.
The above instruction applies to Windows Vista. Windows XP has a
similar instruction. For Windows XP, please refer to the Windows
XP user guide for detail.
